Minutes of Barracuda Diamond Club, Inc.
Meeting Held on November 6, 2003
Attendance: Dave McDonald, Maria McDonald, Denise Prongay, Miriam Molina, Kevin Maggiore, Carol Maggiore, Karen Gayle, Modesto Blanco, Marion Dees, Rusty Dees, Eileen Parsons, Carlos Pandolfo, Joel Hitchman, Joan Cesarano, Elizabeth Lauriello, Teresa Petersen, Don Petersen, Randy Flick, Dave Hardeman, Robyn Hardeman, Carl Bonari, Lynn Kowal, Joy Graham, Sheri Lambert, Sheryl Rice, Dave Bisceglia.
I. Dave McDonald called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm by welcoming everyone to the meeting. Mr. McDonald reintroduced the new Executive Board members as follows: Dave McDonald, Pres., Kevin Maggiore, VP, Karen Gayle, VP, Mo Blanco, VP, Teresa Petersen, Treasurer, Eileen Parsons, Secretary. Wes Parsons is the Barracuda Diamond Club Legal Advisor.
In direct response to a directive from Miami Dade County Public Schools that all booster clubs remove the name of the school from the booster’s name, the Executive Board passed a resolution that proposes an amendment to the articles of incorporation changing the name of the organization to the Barracuda Diamond Club, Inc. The resolution was placed for a vote. Don Petersen moved. Liz Lauriello seconded the motion. The motion passed.
The 2003-04 membership drive is on. $25. membership fee. Liz Lauriello is Varsity Chair. Marion Dees is JV/Freshman Chair. Mrs. Dees passed out membership forms to all present with self-addressed, stamped envelopes. Goal is 100% participation.
The Homestead Motor Speedway fundraiser is scheduled for Nov. 15-Nov. 16. Coach Bisceglia has assigned each player one or two days to participate. Parent volunteers were solicited. The Speedway will pay the team $30. per volunteer per day. Limit (right now) of 25 participants per day. Participants must meet at the Speedway at 6 am each morning. Parking duties expected to end around 1 pm each day. Marion Dees passed out a volunteer sign-up sheet and will follow up with phone calls just prior to the races.
The 40 Family Garage Sale is scheduled for Dec 6 at Coral Reef High School. Chairs are Kevin and Carol Maggiore and Denise Prongay. Carol Maggiore discussed the importance of full participation by all families.
Committees were formed as follows: Advertising: Lynn Kowal, Chair; Drop-off/Pick-Up, Dave McDonald, Chair; SetUp, Sheri Lambert, Chair; Sales, Eileen Parsons, Chair. Maria McDonald has volunteered to call various charities in an attempt to arrange pick up post-sale of all leftover items. Dave McDonald has volunteered to try to arrange for a container to store items on-site which would permit families to drop off items before the morning of the sale. Set up will begin no later than 5:30 am. Breakdown around 2 -2:30 pm. Car Wash and Sponsorships will be sold as well as refreshments.
The Car Wash is scheduled for Dec. 20. Potential sites are the Shell station at 132nd and U.S. 1 and the Texaco station at Marlin Rd and U.S. 1. Tickets will be $5. Each family is expected to sell 10 tickets. Pre-sales are essential to a successful fundraiser. Mr. Blanco presented a motion that all families be encouraged to pay for the tickets up front. It is then left to the discretion of the family to sell the tickets or not. The motion was seconded by Mrs. Hardeman and passed. No family however will be required to participate. Tickets will be printed and distributed by Thanksgiving and money must be turned in no later than the day of the Garage Sale.
Concessions will be sold again this year. Marion Dees is the Chair. Mrs. Dees also passed out volunteer sign-up sheets for field duty and concessions.
Sponsors/Yearbook sales are critical. Dave McDonald has set a goal of $20,000. in sales. Each family is required to sell $250/ads/sponsorships. To date, the Club already has $2500 in sponsorships. Coach Bisceglia passed out the new Barracuda Sponsorship Programs brochures, including the sponsorship form inserts. Various levels of sponsorship available. Coach Bisceglia also discussed permanent scoreboard signage available for a donation of $5000 @ $1000 per year for 5 years.
Coach Bisceglia briefly discussed baseball news. The older players are participating in a weekend tournament as part of the South Florida Elite organization. Tryouts for the spring season begin in late January.
